I was born in Poland and grew up in Israel. I received a BA in Art and Design from the Hornsey College of Art in London. I was one of the founders of the Harduf Kibbutz in Israel. I traveled and studied various world religions. I am a Jew, yet do not belong to any synagogue. I am an Israeli who has been living in the USA for 35 years. I brought up my children here and established a solid social and professional life. I have been the art teacher at the Waldorf School of Baltimore for the last 30 years. Simultaneously, I carry an artistic practice and exhibit my art every few years.
About sleep or awake?
This artwork responds to the idea of relationship between giving and receiving, resting and being active. When we are awake and active, are we asleep to other parts of our being which are awake while our eyes are closed; and we are in a state of contemplation or sleep? I see the engagement with the earth in those two states. While the earth is resting during the year of Shmita (or wintertime), the warmth and fire of the red color are nurturing earth’s hidden forces. When the eyes are awake and open, the calming blue field is formed by the fruits and gifts of the earth.
