Nails are an outer symbol of adornment/ feminine beauty. Women are told that they have to primp and “prune” to meet beauty standards. In the shmita year one generally does not cut plants, rather just let them grow. Shmitacure (smita + manicure) is a simple tongue-in-cheek act of rebellion inspired by shmita which imagines a world where one can let themselves be and grow free.
