Earth Needs Naps

“Earth Needs Naps” is the title track of Mikey Monster’s pending Shmita Album, featuring six songs and a seventh bonus track. The album structure mirrors the seven-year Shmita calendar, which comprises six working years followed by a year of rest and release. Each song is either explicitly about an aspect of Shmita or an expansion upon a broader Shmita theme. In “Earth Needs Naps,” Mikey delivers what is perhaps Shmita’s clearest message: we have to let the Earth rest periodically. The Earth has many functions beyond the support of human life, and it is our imperative to find enough humility to respect the earth’s need for rest above our whims and greed.This compilation aims to share our ancestral wisdom with the wider world using colloquial language, concepts, and media as a bridge between ancient and modern realities. As such, while the album is a Shmita creation, the songs are in English and do not make direct mention of Shmita or the Sabbatical year.While Mikey has already written all of the songs for the album, he is discovering that laying and mastering tracks is quite a bit of work, and he will be completing the full album over the course of the Shmita year.
